“I didn’t know if I would be able to be here”- Rafael Nadal
For his troubles, he will face world number one Novak Djokovic for the tenth time at Roland Garros and the 59th time overall in their rivalry, which began in 2006. After experiencing a recurrence of a severe foot issue that has troubled him for much of his career, Nadal came to Paris doubtful if he would be able to compete. Last year, he missed Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open to recover.
“I know my situation, and I accept it. I can’t complain much. I am in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. Two weeks and a half ago, I didn’t know if I would be able to be here,” said Nadal who is chasing his 22nd Grand Slam title.
“So just enjoying the fact that I am here for one more year. And being honest, every match that I play here, I don’t know if it’s going to be my last match here in Roland Garros in my tennis career. That’s my situation now. Of course, I went through a tough process again with my foot, so I don’t know what can happen in the near future with my career, “ added the Spaniard.
Also, in response to the forthcoming clash with Djokovic, Rafael Nadal said, “We know each other well and have a lot of history. We are in Roland-Garros, it is my favourite place and I will be focused. I will try my best as always, I do not know what will happen, but I can guarantee and I will fight until the end.”
