Danielle Collins set to retire from pro tennis in 2024 as she spills the beans after a loss against Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open

American tennis star Danielle Collins accidentally spilled the beans on her retirement after she was knocked out of the 2024 Australian Open after losing to Iga Swiatek in the second round. The 30-year-old unintentionally talked about playing her last season when she was asked about how much these losses hurt.
Collins lost to Swiatek in three sets. After conceding the first set 4-6, the American star made a comeback in the second set, claiming it 6-3. However, she could not sustain in the deciding set as she lost it 4-6. With this defeat, Collins’ campaign at the 2024 Australian Open came to an end.
After the match, Collins was asked about the extent to which these defeats hurt. To this, the American said that as she is in the last stage of her career, she does not take these losses to heart.
Collins said that while these matches matter, winning and losing are a part of it and hence she is not bothered a lot.
At this point, I'm kind of at the end of my career & they don't sting quite as much, to be honest. I feel like I have kind of gotten to the point where obviously they matter & you know, my career means a lot to me, but the end of the day, you know, you either win or you lose, and that's all there is to it.Danielle Collins said.
Danielle Collins talks about 2024 being her last season
After talking about the losses not affecting her too much, Danielle Collins revealed that the 2024 season would be her last.
While the 30-year-old did not talk about the exact timeline, Collins said that she is looking forward to making the most of her last season on the tour.
Danielle Collins also revealed the reason behind her premature retirement. The American says that the scheduling and things outside the court are affecting her. Also, she seems satisfied with whatever she has achieved so far in her career.
Yeah, this is going to be my last season, actually, competing. I don't really know exactly when, but this will be my last season and I'm really looking forward to that. Yeah, you know, I feel like I've had a pretty good career. There has certainly been ups & downs to it. I think the travel & some of the things away from the court with scheduling & all.Danielle Collins said.
Notably, Danielle Collins has won two singles titles so far in her career. The 30-year-old American has made it to one final and one semifinal at the Australian Open which she achieved in 2022 and 2019 respectively. The American also made it to the quarterfinals at the 2020 French Open.
