The amazing run of Danielle Collins continues in the Golden Swing as well. She made her clay debut for the season at the WTA-500 event in Charleston.

Similar to her run in Miami, Collins dropped just one set throughout the six matches she played in Charleston. Up against Daria Kasatkina in the finals, she won the title decider 6-2, 6-1. This saw her win the fourth title of her career and second on clay.

Following the presentation ceremony, Collins finally got to meet all the members of her box. Among them was her dog, Quincy, who greeted her with over-enthusiasm. The two also played on the court together momentarily as Collins patted and kissed it with the dog, also returning the love.

Collins has now won 13 consecutive matches, achieving her best winning streak ever. The former Australian Open runner-up also became the first woman since Serena Williams to win the titles in Miami and Charleston in the same season.

The American clinched her maiden WTA-1000 title by winning the 2024 Miami Open last week. This saw her make a jump of 31 places in the singles ranking. She also jumped another seven places in the rankings and now breaks in the Top-15 too.

Danielle Collins describes her dog’s road trip to make it for her finals in Charleston

With players often relying on their family members to be the extra support in big matches, the case was no different for Collins. But apart from her family, she also longed for the support of her dog and her family ensured her desire was fulfilled.

During the champion’s speech at the trophy ceremony, Collins thanked everyone but also gave a special shoutout to her dog. She described how her family took a road trip to ensure her dog also made it to the finals and supported her.

The love of my life, Mister Q! He started his road trip last night, late in the evening. Rachel our great family friend and her husband loaded up the RV and they got Mr. Q in time for the finals. Mister Q was so missed this week.

The World No. 15 also joked about how the dog was getting uncontrollable for her family as he wanted to play with Collins. She eventually cut short her speech just to spend time with her furry family member.

I can’t wait to give him a big old hug. I know he’s freaking out over there cause he sees me. He’s desperate to get on court. So I’m gonna have to wrap this up.

With the WTA Tour now coming to a week’s halt due to the BJK Cup matches, Collins gets a well-deserved rest. With only 81 ranking points to defend in the next four months, she will count on her form to try to breaking into the top 10 in what is her farewell season.
