Daniil Medvedev, known to be a “hard court specialist”, is at his best during that phase of the tour. With consistency as the key, the Russian knows the courts in and out.
Recently, a fan posted a picture of the abrasive nature of the hard courts at the 2024 Indian Wells. Taking a close-up picture, the fan shows the status of the ball after being played on these courts. The green covering of the ball was scattered everywhere on the court, and in large amounts, spreading worry among fans and especially the audience who are planning to witness live matches in the tournament.
Looking at this reminded everyone about last year’s Indian Wells incident, where Medvedev ranted to the chair umpire about the terrible hard courts. Denying the fact that it was a hard court, Medvedev pointed out the slowness of the court with a snarky comment.
I’m gonna p*e as slow as slow as this court is, so you can take 25 (minutes)said a visibly frustrated Medvedev
He was rather upset at the slowness of the court, which damages the ball frequently, and the players feel the change. Especially for a hard court specialist like Medvedev, it was rather tough for him to play on these courts.
Indian Wells Tennis ball quality also questioned despite an increase in their prize money
The Indian Wells marks the start of the Sunshine Double, as all top players mark their presence in California. However, as the tournament is about to commence, more complaints are rising, questioning their equipment.

The Indian Wells balls were heavily criticized by a few coaches for their poor quality. Some coaches had pointed out to Andy Roddick that the balls were completely fluffed up after the warmup. Roddick put it across for the whole world to see.
After the balls, it is the courts that receive a lot of comments. Though the pictures show the abrasive nature of the court, nothing can be said about it until a match is played. With top players in the mix, they will surely speak about the court, and even if they don’t, Medvedev would surely comment. Being the “hard court specialist” that he is, the Russian is sure to complain if the courts are truly very bad.
