In the buildup to the 2024 Australian Open, Russian player Daniil Medvedev has made headlines by accusing Netflix of ‘exaggerating‘ events in a recent episode of its tennis docuseries, ‘Break Point.’

The issue comes just days after fellow Russian player Daria Kasatkina criticized the show, adding to the ongoing rift over the second season.

In the pre-match press conference, he revealed that he has been watching the show’s bits from here and there, but he has not watched it properly, nor does he plan on watching it. Kasatkina recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her displeasure with Medvedev’s appearance on ‘Unfinished Business’.

She claimed that she was dissatisfied with how the former world number one was portrayed. The episode, largely based on Medvedev’s rivalry with Alexander Zverev, appeared to have had a significant negative impact, eliciting reactions across social media platforms.

That’s how Netflix is and that’s why people love it, because it exaggerates things. It’s usually hot and cold, no neutral. I don’t have much to add because the series is not real life.

He went on to say how people close to him and the players he shares locker rooms with know about his real personality.

He did admit that his behavior on the court can be deceiving for many, but he believes that his relationship with his fellow mates is on good terms.

The 27-year-old expressed a wish to prioritize important elements of his life while minimizing distractions, such as spending less time on hobbies like talking on the phone or playing PlayStation.

While he acknowledges that he still participates in these hobbies, he emphasizes doing so less frequently and at specified times of the day. This allows him to focus more on his tennis and overall well-being.

I'm thinking much more about my tennis, which person I want to be and feel, physically.
Said Medvedev

He plans on adopting a similar approach on the court and wants to get away from all the distractions, especially other people’s opinions of him. The tennis professional further emphasized the importance of self-focus. More interestingly, as per the 27-year-old himself, excessive attention to external factors can lead to fatigue and frustration.

Medvedev, known for his unique sense of humor and on-court antics, has come a long way since his brazen debut at the 2019 US Open, when he mocked the audience. With his distinct personality and powerful abilities, he has gradually earned the respect of the tennis community.
