The Polish youngster, after conceding the first set in the tiebreaker, thrashed Medvedev in the second set, claiming it 6-2. However, the Russian star came back storming to win the third set 6-3 and take the lead. With the lead not too wide, the match was pushed into a five-setter and Hurkacz sensed an opportunity.

Despite losing two games at the start of the fourth set, Hurkacz fought hard and won the next game. After trailing 4-2, Hurkacz won three games on the trot and took the lead for the first time in the fourth set but it did not last long. Medvedev won the next game to level the scores.

Nevertheless, Hurkacz was in no mood to let the set, and eventually, the game slip from his hands. The Polish ace won two sets on the trot and closed the game in his favor. The fifth set was also closely-contested with both players winning a game alternately.

However, Daniil Medvedev took the lead when he won three games back-to-back and then closed the match by winning the 10th game.
