With two back-to-back defeats, Team Europe has called up two of its big names to join the team for the 2024 Laver Cup. The event will be held in Berlin from September 20 to 22 following the conclusion of the 2024 US Open.
Having won the first four editions, Team Europe suffered their first defeat in 2022 in London. The event also marked the retirement of Roger Federer from professional tennis. The confidence of the win in London helped Team World in Vancouver as they won the title with a scoreline of 13-2.

With two consecutive defeats, the Bjorn Borg-captained side has approached all of their big names to play this year. With former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz being named as the first player, two more names have been added to the squad.
2021 US Open champ Daniil Medvedev and current World No. 6 Alexander Zverev will be part of the 6-man squad for this year’s event. Both men have participated in the competition earlier and have been part of the winning squad.
Borg has been massively focused on bringing the title back on his continent. He shared his excitement on the team that has been created so far.
Team Europe is super motivated to win back the Cup in Berlin. With Daniil, Sascha and Carlos on my team, I think we have an excellent chance of making that happen. The guys have had an incredible start to the year, and this is a really strong first half of our lineup. I’m thrilled to have these champions in the fold for 2024.Said Borg as per the Laver Cup’s official website.
Alexander Zverev eager to perform in home fans at the Laver Cup
Having missed the 2022 and 2023 editions due to his French Open injury against Rafael Nadal, it could have been no better homecoming for Zverev at the Laver Cup. Being part of the team as the competition moves to Germany for the first time, the Olympian was overjoyed at the invitation to play.

I’m so excited about returning to Laver Cup. The atmosphere is always electric and for the Laver Cup to be at home in Germany, for me in particular, is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.Said the German.
Team World has won the last two Laver Cups so we are highly motivated to bring the Cup back to Europe and hopefully, with the support of the local fans, we can do it on home soil.Added the former World No. 2.
Medvedev had similar words of passion for winning the cup back. The Russian has been part of only one edition so far, winning the title in 2021. He was more excited about the team spirit and bonding as he will be in the same camp as some of his biggest rivals on the Tour.
For me, the most exciting thing about Laver Cup is always the team spirit, because it’s very rare that I get to play team competitions in tennis. Having Carlos and Sascha on our team will help a lot because they are two of the best players in the world and I’m really excited to try and get Team Europe back to their winning ways.Said the former World No. 1.
While Team Europe has confirmed half of its line-up already with more than seven months to go, Team World has a different approach. The John McEnroe-captained camp has not yet named a single player on the roster so far. There’s no fixed time for the two-time defending champs to announce their roster.
