World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev had performed really well in this year’s Wimbledon, leading up to his semi-final clash against Carlos Alcaraz. But at the moment when it mattered the most, he had failed to live up to his expectations, thereby putting his dream run to an end. He lost the match to the Spaniard in straight sets with the final scores reading 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
After losing the match without even putting up any sort of fight, he showered immense gratitude towards the young Alcaraz and was all but praise for him. He also gave his view about the final scheduled to be played on Sunday and when asked if he thinks Carlos can beat Novak Djokovic on the Centre Court, he said, “I think, yes. They never played on grass. Novak on grass, what, he won – I don’t want to count – but 30-some matches in a row in Wimbledon. So it’s going to be tough just because you play a guy who barely loses here.”
He further added, “I think should be an interesting match. Yeah, it’s going to be an interesting final. No. 1 and 2 in the world right now. Even if I have an amazing season, I think they’re even quite far ahead in the race, in the points now just because every tournament they play, they go far. I think we cannot say who’s going to win for sure. I think could be a tough match.”
What went wrong for Medvedev in his semi-final clash against Alcaraz?
Daniil Medvedev looked absolutely distraught after his loss against Alcaraz on Friday in the semis bringing his hint for the golden trophy to an end. He talked about how disappointed he was with himself after the match in the post-match conference saying, “Actually, a little bit what surprised me in a way, again, we’re talking that maybe I didn’t do enough well, but there were players who were causing trouble to Carlos.”
The Russian also took the examples of several players who targetted Alcaraz’s weaknesses which he failed to capitalize on saying, “Jarry won a set and was up in the fourth with a break. Berrettini for a set and a half was causing big troubles. I, unfortunately, didn’t manage to do it. That’s where I’m disappointed. I’m like, Other guys could, and I didn’t manage to do it here in the semis. At the same time, maybe he played better.”
