The China Open always brings forth fierce competition and exceptional talent, and this year is no exception. With an extraordinary lineup featuring eight of the top 10 players in the world, the tournament promises to deliver exhilarating matches and intense rivalries. For Daniil Medvedev, the highly-ranked Russian star, winning the China Open with a packed draw would undoubtedly be a memorable experience.
The Russian is seeded No. 2 in the tournament and has managed to secure his spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Medvedev beat America’s Alex De Minaur in two straight sets to be one of the first in the quarterfinals of the tournament. “Tough draw, but as I said, if you manage to play well in this tournament, especially win it, it’s going to be a lifetime memory,” said Medvedev during his post-match interview.
The World No. 3 has had a tough draw so far; he played and beat both well-ranked Americans, Tommy Paul and Alex De Minaur. His next opponent is still uncertain, but it is going to be a top-ranked player, thus making Medvedev fight harder to win the tournament.
Daniil Medvedev determined to win the China Open amidst a tough draw
Russian Daniil Medvedev has received a star-studded draw at the China Open. He recently beat Alex (7-6(3), 6-3) to secure a spot closer to the title. Eight of the top 10 ranked players are participating in the tournament, and both draws have an equal number of well-ranked players, making the tournament that much more interesting. This does not scare the Russian, as he is set to face off in his toughest draw to make the final victory memorable.
However, comparisons have been drawn between past tournaments. Former US Open winner Andy Roddick tweets that he had the toughest draw in his time, where he had all four of the big names in his draw.
Back in 2008, Roddick had to face Rafael Nadal, followed by Novak Djokovic, to advance and eventually go on to win the tournament. Andy Murray and Roger Federer were also present in the draw but had gotten eliminated early. The American contends that his draw was even more difficult than usual, as he faced all of the top players at their peak.
