Carlos Alcaraz recently admitted during an interview that winning the gold medal in the Olympics is much more important than winning a Grand Slam. The Spaniard stated that taking part in the Olympics and winning a medal for his country was his main objective for the season. Alcaraz is currently defending his title in the Argentina Open. He is through to the semi-final of the tournament where Nicolas Jarry awaits him.

The Olympics will be taking place in the clay court this time around. Owing to this the World No.2 was asked whether he would like to win the Olympics or the French Open. The Spaniard had replied:

I would say the Olympic title. It’s a dream for me to bring gold home to my country Spain.

In his recent interview with Eurosport, the World No.3 stated:

I'm a little surprised by Carlos' words. I wonder why he said that. Was it because he watched the Olympics when he was young, or for different reasons? Because it's really interesting. When I played in the Tokyo Olympics, I really wanted to play well and after my defeat (against Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals) I was really disappointed and for a week I felt really bad, which didn't help me.

It's a very big event that every player dreams of winning. But I think the Grand Slams have, in my opinion, a head starts and are a little bit more important in tennis.
