Daniil Medvedev went head-to-head against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final round match on Friday. The 27-year-old won the first set by a close margin. However, a slight change in strategy helped the Russian to amass a 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over his Spanish opponent. Throughout the match, the crowd in the stands became a source of vexation for the Russian, as he expressed in an interview later.

“The crowd was unbelievable. I mean it. I felt love to both sides, ” the Russian said, commenting on the US Open crowd during his match. “1,000 Spanish guys at 5-3 started screaming between 1st & 2nd serves. That’s not so nice. But I guess they were desperate,” he said. “They can go to sleep now,” Medvedev added.
