World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev has played the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and so many other top tennis stars in his short career so far, but he recalls that there is hardly anyone that can be compared to the Serbian. With just a week away from Wimbledon, Medvedev yet again talked about the brilliance of Djokovic, who he has faced a couple of times over the years.

During the 14 times Medvedev has faced the Serb, he emerged victorious on nine occasions, also beating him in a Grand Slam final way back in 2021 at the US Open. Medvedev has always been a true admirer of ‘Joker’ and couldn’t hide his emotions for him when he was asked whether Novak has an off day or not. The Russian replied, “Actually, he does like everybody. Even on these bad days, he manages to beat the opponent. It’s actually tough because it’s one-against-one.”

He added, “Both of them want to win. I don’t know how he’s doing it. That’s why he’s for me the greatest in the history of tennis. But this is basically, of course, debatable.” It’s a dream for any player to beat the Serb even once in his prime and Medvedev has had the better of him on more than one occasion with his recent triumph coming in Dubai.

Will Novak Djokovic end his career as the greatest ever?

Things have taken a different turn in the debate for the best male tennis player ever since Federer retired, with an entire generation of supporters putting their interests to rest. Furthermore, with Nadal getting to the tail end of his career as well as having to fight with injuries more often due to age catching up with him, Novak Djokovic has set the bar too high for the feat to be ever surpassed by anyone in the future.

After his 23rd Grand Slam victory at Roland Garros last month, and now on the hunt for his fifth successive Wimbledon title, Djokovic doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon. Aged 35, he is also progressing to the end of his illustrious career and things would start to get trickier from here as he has to start making the right decisions. He must think hard about which tournaments to prepare for and selectively choose the competitions he would like to compete for his body to cope with the stress.
