The social media account has been criticizing the ATP. This started when a video showed Daniil Medvedev angrily hitting a ball into the stands and hitting an elderly lady. Tennis fans argued that Medvedev wasn’t punished as severely as Novak Djokovic, who accidentally hit a line judge at the 2020 US Open.
Tennis fans went all out on social media pointing out the double standards displayed by the ATP, claiming that they only apply rules against Novak Djokovic. A fan claimed in a social media post:
Yesterday, Medvedev struck the ball onto a fan's face. Rules state it's an automatic default. And judging by Medvedev's reaction he thought he would be defaulted. But remember the rules only seem to apply to Novak Djokovic. Further, Medvedev didn't even get a warning.
In 2020, Novak Djokovic was disqualified from the US Open for hitting the ball on a line judge. The authorities made it look like he did it intentionally when he denied he aimed it and claimed that it was a miss hit. People went all out against the Serbian legend and it was made to look as if the World No.1 had committed a murder.
Meanwhile, tennis followers all over were furious as to how Daniil Medvedev escaped without a warning after intentionally hitting the ball in anger which hit an old lady in the crowds. They compared the incident with Novak Djokovic’s 2020 US Open disqualification and were upset that the ATP was not just and fair towards all its players.
Fans called out the double standards of the ATP, saying rules are different for Novak Djokovic
Tennis fans were upset because they thought the ATP treated Novak Djokovic unfairly compared to other players. They believe the organization is stricter with the 24-time Grand Slam Champion.
Fans noticed a moment during the Vienna Open match between Daniil Medvedev and Arthur Fils. Medvedev hit a fan in frustration. Here’s what fans supporting Djokovic had to say about this incident:
While many Nole fans were upset by the decision, some neutrals criticized the lack of consistency. But, now, the decision is in the past, and Daniil Medvedev is concentrating on his next match against Karen Khachanov as he is set to face the Russian-Armenian in the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open.
