Daniil Medvedev expresses his shock at the ‘respectful’ nature of the crowd as he continues playful banter with them. The Russian defeated Alex de Minaur in the fourth round of the US Open as he now advances to the quarter-final of the championship. While this is not the first interaction the Russian has had with the crowd, this is one of the few positive ones, considering his history with the audience.
When asked in the on-court interview what helps him thrive on the court, Medvedev replied, “I don’t know what the difference is between today and some other days. I want to thank you guys. It was super respectful.” The former US Open champ also acknowledged that no one was shouting between the first and second serves. He also said he was grateful for the respect the crowd at the Louis Armstrong Stadium displayed.
The former World No.1 is known to the tennis audiences for being quite hot-headed in crucial matches. It is not uncommon for the Russian to get negative reactions from the crowd. However, this was not the case at Louis Armstrong.
“It is easier playing like this. There is always going to be some guy who is shouting between first and second serves,” he said. He also revealed that he tries to use it to his advantage. But he also said this type of mental game was always tough. “Hopefully its going to be you on Wednesday,” he said jokingly.
Medvedev defeated Australian Alex de Minaur in the fourth round in an exciting four-set thriller. While the Australian was able to grab the first set, Medvedev showed that it was his day by clinching the next three sets, and ultimately, winning the match. He will be facing Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final of the tournament.
Medvedev marches past Alex de Minaur and into the quarter-final

The Russian defeated de Minaur in an exhausting battle with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. With the tournament done with its initial rounds, the competition is becoming tighter, with only the cream left on top. Medvedev will be facing fellow Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final.
With both players being top-seeded, the match will indeed be one for the books. Medvedev, third-seeded, and Rublev, eighth-seeded, will need to battle it out with all their might to see who comes out on top. While Rublev will be working towards a maiden Grand Slam, Medvedev will try to reclaim his US Open championship trophy.
Both players will hope to try their best. While the two may be compatriots, they will need to battle on the court to emerge successful. They will need to play their best tennis and be in their best form to have a smooth result.
