Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev clashed with Alex de Minaur for a ticket to the quarter-finals of the 2023 US Open. In the middle of the match, the World No. 3 was seen struggling to breathe. The Russian had to call his doctor on-court and fall back on an inhaler to help him breathe better.

Daniil Medvedev was up against Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16 at the ongoing tournament at the Flushing Meadows. Medvedev was seen struggling to breathe during his first set. With his opponent leading in the first set to 3-2, the Russian took a break and called for an inhaler.

New York’s hot and humid conditions made breathing difficult for Medvedev as the 27-year-old was not used to the climate. He is often seen struggling in similar temperatures. Many fans sympathized with Medvedev and claimed that the air in the city was incredibly hot and thick. Medvedev lost the first set to his opponent.

However, the Russian made an astounding comeback in the subsequent sets. He defeated the 13th seed, winning the next three sets in a row. de Minaur was eliminated from the title run as Medvedev dominated the game with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev defeated World No. 13, Alex de Minaur on Monday at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. Though the tennis star lost the first set, he regained his footing thereafter. The 27-year-old beat his Australian opponent over the course of the next 4 sets. He had earlier defeated Argentina’s Sebastian Baez with ease in the third round of the Open, winning in straight sets.

The World No. 3 is in great form at the ongoing Grand Slam. He has dominated his previous opponents with ease, losing only 2 sets over 4 matches. Medvedev will now face eighth seed and fellow Russian, Andrey Rublev, in the Quarter-final match. Fans expect a thrilling showdown between the two high-ranked Russians at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.
