Daniil Medvedev, one of the most aggressive players on the court, finally agrees to his mistake and hopes to reduce his unnecessary interaction with the fans. He is one of the few players who is easily agitated by the fans and tends to give it back to them on the spot.
The Russian was up against Nuno Borges in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Continuing his fine form, Medvedev beat his opponent in four sets to march into the quarterfinals.
During the post-match interview, the 27-year-old brought out a new side to his fans, a side that did not involve him arguing with the crowd. Upon Jim Courier’s requests, Medvedev gave a small masterclass on his return to the stage, which thoroughly entertained the fans.
Enjoying the presence of the legend, the Russian expressed his New Year’s resolution of not interacting with the crowd as much as he used to.
This year is good, yeah. Was great. As I said already before the tournament, look, I want to try to change it. When I say 'to change it', not that, Guys, please love me, whatever, no. I just want to think less about it, do my job, play tennis. Still can get some interactions with my box, but less with the crowd.Said Medvedev to the AO Press.
With the change, he doesn’t expect the crowd to love him, but the Russian just wants to focus more on his game than on the fans who usually distract him.
Daniil Medvedev is on the road to redemption as he changes many aspects of life
World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev continues his fine form at the Australian Open without having any problems with the crowd. It is as if a new Medvedev stepped into 2024.
2023 included many disputes between the Russian and the fans, making him one of the most hated players on tour.
However, in 2024 came a new Medvedev who looked for redemption, and he revealed that he would change many aspects of life. Agreeing to his mistake of pouncing on a fan, the Russian looks to portray himself as a whole new person behind the mask of a villain.
Focusing on his game, the No. 2 seed has made it to his third Grand Slam quarterfinals in a row. He will face Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, who is fresh off a hard-fought victory.
He may have beaten Arthur Cazaux in straight sets, but the first couple of sets were taken to the tiebreak, where the Pole closed it out in style. Both players are currently one of the hottest players on the Tour, and their clash is sure to be a tight one to remember.
