The Russian star, Daniil Medvedev expressed his frustration over the hardcourts used in the Indian Wells Open this year. During his third-round match against Ilya Ivashka, he showed his disappointment over the court by talking to the on-court umpire. Medvedev lost the second set 6-3 later when he was seen upset with the court. Although the fifth seed won the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, he was not satisfied with the pace of the court and said it was very slow.

After winning his 16th consecutive match, the four-time ATP Masters 1000 champion progressed to the fourth round at the Indian Wells Open. Despite the scores being tied at 1-1 following the initial two sets, Medvedev staged a remarkable comeback to clinch victory in the third set and ultimately secure the match.

Daniil Medvedev saw two of his streaks come to a close as Ilya Ivashka halted Medvedev’s 18-set victory run and his seven-set domination over the World No. 85 by securing the second set. Medvedev’s performance at the ATP Masters 1000’s first event of the year was inconsistent, as evidenced by his eight aces and six double faults.

Speaking to the on-court umpire after the second set, Daniil Medvedev said, “I’m gonna pee as slow as this court. The court is slow so I go slow and I’m gonna be as slow as the court is, so you can take 25 mins… oh no no but the court is slow so I go slow, I take my time. This is not hardcourts.”

Daniil Medvedev cruises into the fourth round of Indian Wells

Daniil Medvedev will be up against the 12th seed, Alexander Zverev in the fourth round of the tournament. It will be an exciting match for the fans as the two have had some interesting battles in the past. Zverev coming after recovering from an injury is slowly getting his touch back. Although Medvedev has a slight edge over Zverev, it was the German who had the better outing the last time these two played.

Speaking about the courts, Medvedev further said, “Always tricky to play here. (It’s) tough to make anything during the rallies, so just have to kind of see who puts more balls in court. If you lose a little momentum you lose a set.”

Zverev is recovering from the ankle ligament injury that prematurely halted his 2022 season at the French Open. He expressed his gratitude for securing a hard-fought 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 triumph over Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori. However, he acknowledged the latter’s superior performance in the decisive third set.
