Daniil Medvedev experienced deja vu at the Indian Wells Masters as he once again lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals. Despite an amazing performance throughout the tournament, the Russian could not bring the same performance this time and suffered another loss.
Medvedev was soaring high after a great start. He had winners flowing out from his racket, which slowly turned into unforced errors, that helped Alcaraz close out the gap. In no time, the Spaniard was all over the Russian No. 1. In the end, it was Alcaraz who secured a monumental victory by beating Medvedev in straight sets.
However, even after a disappointing loss, the runner-up did not fail to crack up the audience. During the post-match interview, he congratulated his opponent while hoping to never play him again in the finals.
I want to congratulate Carlos. Congrats to you and your team.. Hopefully, one day you can let me play a little better here or maybe I won’t play you in the final. So far it doesn’t work.said Medvedev during the trophy ceremony.
This is the second final of the year that Medvedev lost. However, it must be noted that he is very consistent, being able to enter two tournament finals, and fighting his way through a tough draw. Hopefully, the third time is the charm for the Russian, who is hoping for a maiden title win of the year.
Daniil Medvedev turns up the heat at the Indian Wells as he uttered tennis a sh*t sport
Russian pro-Daniil Medvedev had hoped not to involve himself in the crowd in 2024. However, that doesn’t stop him from muttering to himself or arguing with the umpire. The 2024 Indian Wells finals also saw an epic showdown from Medvedev to get the crowd going.
It started with him asking the umpire for a review to see if the ball went in or out. Then he shouted at his portion of the crowd for cheering on Carlos Alcaraz. But nothing matched the epic statement by Medvedev that took the internet by storm.
During the first set tie-break, Medvedev muttered a few words in Russian, which translated to “Tennis is such a sh*t sport.” Medvedev might have lost the finals, but he will enter the Miami Open as one of the in-form players who is sure to have a deep run. The Russian is also the defending champion at the tournament, adding more to the stakes for him.
