World No.7, Daniil Medvedev is on a roll in the 2023 season. Medvedev exited 2022 with merely two titles under his belt. However, the 2021 US Open champion has already marked down 3 ATP titles this year. Medvedev has an impressive win-loss record of 19-2. Furthermore, the Russian has fulfilled numerous accomplishments with his run so far.
Medvedev defeated World No.1 Novak Djokovic to reach the Dubai Tennis Championships final on Saturday. Much to Djokovic’s frustration, Medvedev ended the Serb 4-month winning streak to extend his own. After winning the Dubai title against compatriot Andrey Rublev, Daniil has managed to win three consecutive ATP Tour titles.
Medvedev once again came out on top against Rublev. The pair have encountered each other numerous times, as the head-to-head tally is led by the World No.7. Before Dubai, Medvedev also won the Qatar Open and the Rotterdam Open consecutively to secure his hat-trick. This was his 18th ATP Tour title as well. The Russian has been in full form for the hard-court season.
Moreover, he also extended a 14-match winning streak, securing the highest no. of wins in 2023 so far. Medvedev’s record-breaking Dubai win, along with defeating Djokovic on the way, has made him one of the favourites for the Indian Wells ATP 1000 as the Serb is out of the draw now. Fans reacted to Daniil’s multiple achievements and congratulated him too.
Some fans applauded the Russian for his outstanding skills on the hard court. They also commented on Medvedev’s prospects at the upcoming Sunshine Double. Hopes to see him win the US Open are high, as stated by a Twitter user, that ‘2021 Medvedev’ is back.
Daniil Medvedev to compete at Indian Wells next
With Novak Djokovic out of the draw due to US regulations and Rafael Nadal on a break due to his hip injury, it is the new generation of players who will dominate the ATP 1000 tournament. This year, all eyes will be on Daniil Medvedev, the former US Open winner who has been on a roll in the February tournaments.
After his stunning Dubai Open win, Medvedev has become one of the favorites for the titles. The Russian lost some momentum last year but has come back to form to clinch three titles already. The former World No.1 will be competing against players such as Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud among others. The first round of the Indian Wells will begin on March 8.
