Top seed at Wimbledon Carlos Alcaraz registered a surprisingly easy victory over no. 3 Daniil Medvedev in the Wimbledon semifinals. With the victory, the 20-year-old Spaniard booked his place in the final, where he will face the reigning champion and the most decorated men’s tennis player ever, Novak Djokovic.
Medvedev’s loss to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon 2023 semifinals was a tough blow for the Russian, who had previously won the US Open in 2021. Speaking to reporters after the match, Medvedev was candid about his performance and his disappointment.
“I lost. I don’t deserve to be there in the final because I didn’t win today,” Medvedev admitted. “It’s a very great match (speaking of the Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz). I’m not going to lie, it’s a very great match to watch, but I’m not going to watch it because I’m going to be too disappointed to not be there.”

Medvedev explained his reason for not wanting to watch the Wimbledon final
Daniil Medvedev explained that watching the final would only add to the misery of his loss, as he would be constantly reminded of his missed opportunities and mistakes. “But if I watch it on TV, I’m probably going to digest my loss worse because I’m going to be like, ‘My God, this forehand, this double-fault, this return, I should have done better,’“ he said.
Despite his disappointment, Medvedev acknowledged the challenge of playing against Alcaraz, who he compared to the legendary ‘Big Three’ of tennis – Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
“He’s a very strong player. I would say in general to compare like the Big Three, they’re amazing, they win so many Grand Slams, they win so many matches. He’s kind of like them,” Medvedev remarked.
However, Medvedev expressed his desire to still be updated about the match. “I am going to follow live score probably. I’m going to be interested in the live score, but I’m not going to watch it. Maybe we’ll see the highlights or something in the news or something like this.”
Alcaraz put up a last stand tomorrow against Djokovic’s unwavering dominance at Wimbledon. Will Djokovic win a 5th consecutive and 8th overall title here, or will Alcaraz overcome all odds and win a maiden Wimbledon title?
