Russian World Number 5 Daniil Medvedev showed no mercy off the court as well since he dispatched Alexander Zverev for his remarks against him following the loss in the Monte Carlo Masters pre-quarterfinals. The final score by which the Russian won was 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9-7). During the tight encounter, the German had the chance to serve for the match twice in the 11th game of the second and third sets and then had two match points in the final set tiebreaker.
As Medvedev said in the press conference, “Yeah, Sascha, when he loses, we can find maybe 25 interviews of him where he does say some strange things. Again, honestly saying like if guys like Casper, I don’t know, Andrey, maybe Karen, even Diego, so I had let’s call it a fight with him in ATP Cup, honestly, I’m at fault, and probably he still like doesn’t like me the way maybe he liked me before this match. And I’m sorry that a guy like Diego, who’s so kind and so fair play, feels like this about me.”
The Russian continued on how he thinks about the German’s remarks and antics on the court, “Sascha is not this guy. Sascha is not like Casper, he’s not like Diego, and he’s not like Andrey. When he says someone is not fair play, you’re like, Okay, great. Look at yourself in the mirror.”
Alexander Zverev still has a lot of work to be done to be back on top

The German World No.16 Alexander Zverev was playing some of his best tennis during the past years before the freak ankle injury sustained during the French Open 2022. Zverev has not been able to get back into top form since his return to the ATP Tour. His Australian Open run ended in the second round itself. Then he played ATP Rotterdam but there also his campaign ended in round two.
At the Qatar Open this year, Zverev lost to Briton legend Andy Murray in round two. Then in Dubai Open, he played some good tennis but eventually lost to Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals. At Indian Wells Masters he played a great three-setter match against the eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in the pre-quarter-finals.
Zverev will be looking to play better in the coming tournaments of the clay court swing. After a tight loss against Medvedev in the pre-quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, the tennis world is looking forward to seeing him back in the best and challenging the top players.
