Russian hotshot Daniil Medvedev has been enjoying himself by playing some amazing tennis in the last few weeks. Having achieved a nice track record this season he has maintained his ranking in the Top-3 thereby qualifying for the ATP Finals quite easily. Following this, he also booked his place in the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament after wins over Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev in the first two group-stage matches.

Ahead of his match against Carlos Alcaraz on Friday, Medvedev talked about how he looks up to the match. At the press conference, he talked about doing his best against the Spaniard despite having already qualified for the next stage He also referred to Novak Djokovic‘s approach at the 2022 ATP Finals as an example. Novak was in the same situation having assured a top spot in the group but still played an intense brand of tennis winning against Medvedev.

Medvedev said, “I will try to do my best against Carlos. It’s always a dilemma, for sure you don’t want to play the tie‐break in the third set after 3:30 when you’re playing the next day. For example, Novak last year against me, it was a very tough match physically. He could very well have said to himself: ‘It doesn’t matter if I win or lose, I’m always first.’ But he did not do it. I think it’s a good example to try to do my best on Friday and try to win.”

What happened with Novak Djokovic at the 2022 ATP Finals?

Medvedev talked about the impressive mindset of Novak Djokovic back in last year’s edition of the ATP Finals. The Serbian was miles ahead of his group-stage opponents winning the first two matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev in straight sets victories. He was assured of a top-spot finish and having already qualified for the semis, fans thought that the veteran would be taking it lightly against Medvedev in this third group-stage matchup.

Djokovic battled it out with the Russian over 3 hours and 10 minutes finally winning the game in a three-set thrilling encounter.
