Russian tennis ace Daniil Medvedev took a jibe at the US Open crowd as the World No.3 won his third-round match at the Flushing Meadows. While Medvedev thanked the rest of the crowd for not disturbing him, the Russian singled out one of the spectators for constantly disturbing him. Medvedev said that he felt sorry for his wife as she might be having a hard time while sleeping beside him.
The Russian has not received the best treatment from the US Open crowd so far. However, Medvedev has not been troubled a lot by the crowd this year and the Russian talked about the same during his on-court interview. As Medvedev defeated Argentine Sebastian Baez in his third-round match, he was asked about the crowd experience so far.
Daniil Medvedev thanked the US Open crowd for not shouting between the first and the second serve. However, he was prompt to single out one spectator who had been giving the Russian a hard time.
“Thanks to all the guys who don’t shout between 1st & 2nd serve. There’s 1 guy, I don’t know if he has a wife. I don’t know how she’ll sleep because he’s so pumped up he’s gonna end the night saying ‘vamo!’ nonstop. I feel sorry for him,” said Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev eyes his second Grand Slam title

The Russian tennis ace has been having a good run at the 2023 US Open as Daniil Medvedev advanced into the pre-quarterfinals. Medvedev defeated Baez in three sets 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) in his third-round game to set up a pre-quarterfinals clash with Alex de Minaur. The Russian admitted that it was not an easy game considering the Argentine was at almost the same level as him.
“I felt like we were both playing well, even in the first two sets,” he said post-match. “I was just a little better on important points, kind of everything was going my way. Third set he raised his level just a little bit to make the match even tougher. A bit of luck and some good play from me kept me in the set.”
Having advanced into the pre-quarters, Daniil Medvedev is close to his goal of winning a second Grand Slam title. The Russian already has one US Open title which he won in 2021, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. This year, Medvedev stands a chance to recreate his performance from 2021.
