Russian pro-Daniil Medvedev had to deny a fan’s request for souvenirs after a dominant show of tennis in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Seeded at No.1, the Russian ran through his two matches with ease as he stood face-to-face against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a spot in the semi-finals. From the get-go, the Russian was on top of his opponent, double-breaking in each of the sets to win the match and qualify for the semi-finals.
Despite the excitement in the air after a straight-set victory, Medvedev was rather hesitant to give out souvenirs to a fan. Though he signed a few, he did not give up any of his belongings. As Medvedev was signing a few tennis balls, he had to turn down a request from the fans as they asked for some souvenirs.
Fan: Daniil, can I have a T-shirt, please! Daniil: Sorry, I need it tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. I hope for the day after tomorrow.Fan: Can I have a wristband?
Daniil: I don’t play with a wristband.
Fan Can I have a racket?
Daniil: I’ll also play with a racket tomorrow.
Nonetheless, the tournament went on as the defending champion advanced to the second last round of the tournament. He now faces Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals, as he looks to make a successful title defense.
Dominant Daniil Medvedev beats Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to make it to his 52nd tour-level semi-final
2024 Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev took some time off the court after a tough loss in the finals. He made a return at the Dubai Tennis Championships to try and defend his title against some of the best ATP players.
However, no one had any answers to the sweet form the Russian was in. After a small hiccup in the second match, where the Russian had to come back from a set down, he went on to beat Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. With this win, Medvedev entered his 52nd tour-level semi-finals and is only a couple of matches away from a title defense in the UAE.
Last year, the Russian beat Novak Djokovic in the semis and his Russian counterpart, Andrey Rublev, in the finals to win the title. Continuing his great form on the hard court, Medvedev advanced to the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. He will now face Ugo Humbert, who is off to a great victory against Hubert Hurkacz. Coming back from a set down, the Frenchman sealed the second-set tiebreak and went on to dominate the third set. With that, he won the match and secured the spot opposite Medvedev for the finals.
