Emotions play a vital role in a game of sports. The players go through a roller-coaster of emotions and the fans for them. Especially during tight matches, emotions run very high among players, and sometimes their feelings just get the better of them. Recently, Russian Tennis Pro Daniil Medvedev exhibited some emotion during his match against Sebastian Korda in the Round of 32 of the Shanghai Open.
The Russian who was fresh off a deep run in the China Open experienced an early exit during his second game of the Shanghai Open. Daniil was playing a tight first set when he lost to the American in the tiebreak. Resulting in this first-set loss, he smashed his racket out of frustration. Eventually, the World Number 3 lost the game with the final score of 7-6(8), 6-2. After a tight first set, the Russian lost the momentum which could have been a major reason for his loss.
Tennis like other sports is not only about the physical battle, it also tests the player’s mental strength. Many players show their emotions on the court to relieve themselves of some pressure and get their minds back in the game. Medvedev in this case exhibited his frustration on his racket as he smashed it on the ground.
Daniil Medvedev is satisfied with his 2023 run and regrets not winning a Grand Slam
World Number 3, Daniil Medvedev has had a remarkable 2023 season with five ATP titles this year. He even reached the finals of the Indian Wells, China Open, and even the US Open. “It has been a great season. I would love to have won a Grand Slam, but if we leave them aside, it is probably my best season. At Wimbledon and the US Open, I had very good streaks. A lot of titles, big wins, really consistent,” said Medvedev in an interview at Shanghai Open.
The 27-year-old Russian also had a wonderful run at the US Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the finals. He is mostly known for expressing his emotions on the field whether it is at the player or the referee. At the Shanghai Open, Medvedev smashed his racket out of frustration. This loss ended his title defense at Shanghai.
