Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev says he doesn’t want to think too much about the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz‘s form and abilities. Despite losing in both of the encounters they have played this year, Medvedev says he is ready to face the youngster in the upcoming tournaments. Medvedev’s one and only win against Alcaraz dates back to 2021 Wimbledon.

In a recent interview, Medvedev said, “The other question is that to get to Carlos, it will probably be the semis or final, and so you need to beat other guys before and I’m not sure if I would play them like I would play Carlos.”

Talking about what it takes to go against the Spaniard, Medvedev shared, “With Carlos, you have to take a little more risk, but with other guys, I’m not sure. So, it’s always a balance so it’s not like, you’re only thinking about Carlos but then you lose in the first round and you’re thinking, ‘Well, at least I was prepared for Carlos!” (H/T: Tennis.com)

So there is a lot of work for the Russian to do to turn this matchup against Alcaraz. Though World No.3 Daniil Medvedev was not able to win any of the Grand Slam titles this year, the Russian was still able to clinch 5 titles including 2 ATP-1000 Masters -Miami and Rome. He looked comfortable on clay for the first time in his career by winning the Italian Open, but he was not able to find his magic in the French Open where he lost in the first round.

In Wimbledon, he cruised past the opponents but got humbled by the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in straights in the semi-finals. It also turned out to be revenge by the Spaniard for his loss in straights against the same Medvedev in 2021 Wimbledon.

Medvedev usually picks up his best form in the North American hard-court swing. if he can find his magic again, this year’s US Open will be so tight at the top of men’s tennis. With Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic looking to build their rivalry to new heights, Medvedev, who is a former champion here, can produce his own version of tennis to make a surprise.
