It took him some time but Daniil Medvedev is into the semi-finals at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. Up against surprise quarter-finalist Christoper Eubanks, the Russian was made to work hard to reach the last four. Playing on his beloved ‘No. 1 Court’, Medvedev won the match 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 57 minutes.
Eubanks made a great recovery in sets 2 and 3 to put Medvedev on the ropes. The Russian had to elevate his game massively in the fourth set to take the match into the tiebreaker where his experience came in handy for him. The fifth saw Medvedev in rampant form as he raced to a 4-0 lead. It was in the fifth game that Eubanks finally recorded one game for him to make it 4-1. Eubanks couldn’t hold his serve as Medvedev clinched the match in the seventh game.
Having praised the crowd support and his luck on the No. 1 Court, Medvedev thanked them again during his on-court interview. “That means next time I will have to play on Centre Court – and I don’t win as many five-set matches in my career there. Here [on Court One] I have two, one coming from two sets to love down, so this is definitely my favorite court anywhere so far. But I am just happy to be in the semi-finals,” said the former World No. 1 to loud cheers from the spectators.

After Clayvedev, it’s Grassvedev time for Daniil Medvedev
Having not gone past the fourth round at the Championships prior to this year, Daniil Medvedev is now in the semi-finals at the Grand Slam. After winning his maiden grass title at the 2021 Mallorca Championships, the Russian lost his next two finals on the grass during the 2022 season.
In the build-up for this year’s Wimbledon, he had not reached any grass final and his chances were seen as low. However with the changing surface at Wimbledon which allows players to ‘slide’, something the likes of Bjorn Borg, Martina Navratilova, and Roger Federer would be appalled by, the ‘Clayvedev’ variant of the former World No. 1 is now transitioning into ‘Grassvedev’
The former US Open champ will now have to wait to know who his semi-final opponent is going to be. Playing on the Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune are engrossed in a rough battle. Alcaraz had won the first two sets when Medvedev confirmed his spot in the last-4.
