Russian tennis ace Daniil Medvedev had a massive meltdown during his second-round match at the 2024 Australian Open as the third seed smashed his racket in frustration. As Medvedev was trailing against Ruusuvuori, he lost his cool and smashed the racket.
Medvedev got a warning for it. This led to Novak Djokovic fans complaining about the disparity in treatment.
The Serbian’s fans claimed that had it been Djokovic, the chair umpire would have treated him differently. A user went on to claim that Djokovic has always been treated harshly and the decisions made against him have been biased.
That racket could have gone anywhere. Now just imagine if this was Djokovic it would be played on a loop on all major media outlets saying what a bad role model he is and has anger issues etc. But as it's Medvedev it's ok, just passion and so "cool".A user wrote on X sharing the video of Daniil Medvedev smashing his racket.
Novak Djokovic fans agree about disparity in treatment
As the above-mentioned user talked about the chair umpires treating matters related to Novak Djokovic differently, many fans agreed. They claimed that it has always been the case that the Serbian receives the most severe punishments for acts that are deemed impulsive for others.
Another user said that Daniil Medvedev’s racket throwing was more brutal and dangerous and that Novak Djokovic would never indulge in anything of that sort. Meanwhile, one drew a hyperbole claiming that Djokovic would have been disqualified and arrested for the same behavior.

It is worth mentioning that Novak Djokovic was levied a fine of about 8,000 dollars (7,110 euros) for smashing his racket on the post at the 2023 Wimbledon final. Here, Daniil Medvedev was allowed to continue with a warning and there was no fine levied after the match.
