Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina was pleased with the change in rules for female attire at the upcoming 2023 Wimbledon Championships. In an interview with Sky Sport, the tennis professional opened up about the recent change in Wimbledon’s rule, allowing female players to wear dark undershorts. As per the 26-year-old, the strict white attire of Wimbledon added an additional level of stress to female players, especially those who are on their periods.
After receiving backlash from many former tennis players and fans, Wimbledon officials were reported to have ditched their strict Victorian-age guidelines for female undershorts a few months ago. The 2023 Wimbledon will allow female players to wear dark-colored undershorts for the first time in its history.
Daria Kasatkina also addressed the difficulties faced by female players due to the complete white attire rule in Wimbledon. She said, “If you know, thinking about periods and stuffs, and if your skirt will get dirty, additional stress which you don’t want to think about.”
According to Kasatkina, the change in the rule has made all the female players happy. She further added, “Finally, we have got these little adjustments and I don’t think it will hurt the tournament but, for us, the girls, it’s gonna be such a big deal.”
