Russian tennis ace Daria Kasatkina is not happy with the way WTA TV is promoting tennis among its fans. In fact, the 26-year-old believes that WTA TV intentionally does not promote women’s tennis and that it should have never been separated from Tennis TV.
Kasatkina looks unhappy with the way WTA is managing things and the promotion part is no exception. The Russian highlighted how TennisTV is perfectly promoting the sport and attracting the audience while WTA TV lacks immensely.
The 26-year-old Russian cited WTA’s lackluster approach in handling its TikTok account to explain how the platform is failing to promote its content overall.
It feels like they don't intentionally promote women's tennis, and that's very disappointing. If you look at the WTA`s TikTok, it was created in 2020 during the COVID-19, and the last video was published at that time. After all, the WTA has the platform, the fans, you just have to get this car up and running. What's wrong with them? To be honest, I can't answer that question.Daria Kasatkina told Elis Kostik for the Telegraph.
Daria Kastkina demands for changes in WTA while thanking PTPA for standing by the players
Daria Kasatkina also talked about the criticism surrounding WTA and what changes can be made to improve the overall functioning of the governing body. She claimed that every player on the tour is not happy with how things are being handled.
Right now the situation is favorable for changes. WTA is not at the rock bottom, but the current position is not great. Nearly all the players are not happy, there is no progress in the organization, there is no marketing.Daria Kasatkina said about WTA.
The Russian then talked about the role of organizations like PTPA (the association set up by Novak Djokovic to help players) and thanked them for standing by the player’s side. Kasatkina claimed that the team at PTPA is helping them with the legal technicalities in their fight with WTA.
We are trying to fight with the help of PTPA, they have taken the role of a representative because we are not lawyers, we don't know the legal issues. They have professionals there who know exactly what to do.Kasatkina said of PTPA.
Daria Kasatkina cited the mismanagement by WTA while hosting the year-ending championships in Cancun. She claimed that the governing body became a laughing stock for their lackluster management of the entire tournament. Notably, the venues for the WTA Finals were confirmed only a few weeks before the commencement. Players then also complained about the quality of courts laid by the WTA for such a high-profile tournament.
The WTA, in response, has not openly spoken about the concerns being raised by the players. The officials are, however, trying to reach common ground with the players behind teh curtains.
