Daria Kasatkina rose in uproar against the stream of abusive messages she received after her semis qualification at the WTA Elite trophy at Zhuhai. The Russian had won the matches against both players in her group, thus advancing to the semi-final of the tournament.

The current Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) World No. 17 player Daria Kasatkina has had a pleasing couple of years. Reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 8 in the 2022 season, it is safe to say that she was playing some of her best tennis last year.

However, her best performance in one of the bigger tournaments this year was at the Canadian Open, where she made a quarter-final appearance. While 2022 saw her making a semi-final qualification at the French Open, she has not made a similar campaign this year.

However, after her semi-final qualification at Zhuhai, she posted on Twitter(now called X) that she had been receiving abusive messages after her round-robin match. While the Russian had emerged as the best in her group, this was still not enough for a lot of people. However, Kasatkina had proved that she had had enough as she took to the platform to say: 

I won btw. This sh*t is completely out of control.

Her backlash did not stop with this. She had even compiled screenshots of various abusive messages and had posted them along with her quote.

While the former World No. 8 has been proving to the tennis world that she is capable of competing at the highest level, she is still receiving abuse from a large chunk of the audience of the sport.

Daria Kasatkina moves on to the semi-final stage of the WTA Elite trophy

The former French Open semi-finalist Daria Kasatkina moves on to the semi-final of the WTA Elite trophy. She was grouped together with Barbora Krejcikova and Magda Linette both of whom she defeated in the round robin stage.

Kasatkina in a show of herculean effort proved that she was in better form than her opponents. While her match against Krejcikova was a three-set thriller, she had her match against Linette in the bag. She defeated the Pole in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

These wins against her opponents secured her a spot in the semi-final round of the tournament. She will be playing against the winner of the round-robin match between Beatriz Haddad Maia and Caroline Garcia. She will fight for a spot in the final, where she can aim for a potential title.
