Jannik Sinner has been one of the consistent performers on the tour this season. The Italian has at least reached the semifinals of the last four events he has competed in, finishing as the runner-up at Miami Open and ATP Rotterdam Open. Barcelona Open director and former Spanish tennis player David Ferrer stated that Jannik Sinner impresses him the most out of all the younger players.

The former tennis player has backed the Italian prodigy to become the world number one in the future. Currently ranked 8th in the world, Jannik Sinner has gained several places in rankings over the last couple of months. David Ferrer has also backed the Miami Open finalist to get his hands on a Grand Slam title in the near future.

I consider Jannik a very good player who is improving every year, reaching his goals, and I am sure he will have his chances to win a Grand Slam and become No. 1. In fact, among the young players he is the one who impresses me the most because of the power of his shots and his margin for improvement, which is still very wide,” said David Ferrer.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are two of the fiercest competitors on the tour at the moment. The duo have clashed six times in less than a year, and their rivalry is widely gaining prominence. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters, whereas, the Italian avenged his defeat in the semifinals of the Miami Masters.

David Ferrer believes that this could be a great rivalry in the future, but added that there was no shortage of talented players on the tour. The two youngsters could lock horns again later this week in Barcelona.

“It could be, but there is no shortage of good players out there. There is also Sebastian Korda, who is improving all the time. But at the moment, yes, these are two players who have a clear idea of what their goal is and are very ambitious,” said Ferrer.

“From this point of view it is a good rivalry because, moreover, they are both good people and I like that. They are humble, respectful and the fact that players of this level are like this is good for the sport in general,” he added.

David Ferrer also heaped praise on Carlos Alcaraz, stating that he would certainly leave a mark on the Spanish tennis community. He refused to compare the 2022 US Open champion to the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal just yet.

“He is already No. 1 and the youngest ever to win a Grand Slam. He is breaking one record after another. I don’t want to compare him to Nadal, [Novak] Djokovic or [Roger] Federer because their shadow is very difficult to match. But without a doubt he will be a player who will mark an era in Spanish and world tennis,” he added.
