David Ferrer, the tournament director of the Barcelona Open, is eagerly anticipating the participation of Rafael Nadal in his tournament. Despite Nadal’s hip injury at the Australian Open, Ferrer is content with his compatriot’s recovery progress and is looking forward to seeing him perform at his best in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona.
Ferrer acknowledges that Nadal is eager to regain his top form quickly and compete for his 15th Roland Garros title in June. Nadal’s most recent ATP title, his 92nd, was achieved in Paris last year, where he defeated Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, and Casper Ruud to secure his 22nd Major.
Despite experiencing foot pain and facing numerous opponents, Nadal was able to maintain his impressive record in the French capital and remains a top contender 17 years after winning his first title there. However, the Spanish player has been facing various challenges since Wimbledon, having only played 13 matches since August and losing ground as a result.
According to David Ferrer, Rafael Nadal will have a final practice session on Friday and then make a decision. Whether he will participate in the Barcelona tournament next week is not clear. The draw for the tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
