Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka is currently preparing for the upcoming 2024 Miami Open. She is into the main-draw using her protected ranking as she missed the 2023 season due to her pregnancy.
The Japanese star played at the 2024 Indian Wells Open and reached the third round where Elise Mertens beat her in straight-sets. Before that match, the four-time singles Grand Slam title winner won both her matches without dropping a set. Osaka has shown her old self at times but needs to bring it often.
As her preparations continue for the event in Miami, Osaka was part of an interesting collab. As Miami also hosts the Miami Grand Prix in F1 at the Miami International Autodrome, the organizers presented a special jacket to the two-time US Open winner designed by Jeff Hamilton.
Hamilton is a famous celebrity fashion designer known for his brilliance in working with leather jackets. The jackets often have brilliant graphics and have become an important part of pop culture and sports. Osaka was also gifted a similar jacket.
The black colored jacket had the text ‘NAOMI’ written on one sleeve with some finer details on the other one. Right in the center of the jacket, the design of the racetrack of the Miami Grand Prix is styled with the word ‘MIAMI’. The back of the jacket has a cartoon animal holding a giant flower.
Osaka posted the pictures on her Instagram account with an anime top worn with the jacket. She also had her Nike shoes on with the famous swoosh in giant size showing her fashion sense.
Naomi Osaka chasing her maiden title in Miami
While Osaka has played her best on hardcourts, she is yet to win the title in the Miami Open. She made her debut in 2016 and reached the third round. She then exited in the second round in 2017 and 2018 losing to Simona Halep and Elina Svitolina respectively.
In 2019, she lost in the third round again despite being a seed. She finally broke through in 2021 to reach the quarter-finals before losing to Maria Sakkari. She improved on the result in 2022 reaching the finals. Osaka was however defeated by Iga Swiatek in the finals.
The win over Osaka made the Pole the World No. 1 for the first time. She enters the 2024 edition with a 12-6 record. She will begin her campaign against Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the first round eyeing her eighth career title.
