Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka registered a sensational win today in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open to qualify for the fourth round of the tournament with ease.

The Belarusian played against Ukrainian player Lesia Tsurenko and defeated her 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets. She did not let her opponent win a single set, which portrays sheer dominance and gives a hint of how good of a form she is currently in.

Sabalenka’s performance in the first two rounds had also been similarly dominating. She defeated Ella Seidel in the first round and Brenda Fruhvirtova in the second round.

Both of those wins came in straight sets. The Belarusian headed into the Australian Open after losing to Elena Rybakina in the final of the Brisbane International, her first tournament of the season.

She has seemingly made considerable progress in the few days that she had after the final that she invested in rectifying her flaws.

In the on-court interview of Aryna Sabalenka after her third-round victory, she was asked a rather interesting question.

The interviewer praised her fierceness and competitiveness and asked her which other field she could have used it in if she were not a tennis player.

Well, it’s definitely boxing. There’s nothing else I think.
She said.
I totally can imagine her as a boxer!
A particular fan commented.

Aryna Sabalenka is set to face Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round of the 2024 Australian Open. The American is 4-1 up against the Belarusian in a head-to-head record and it will thus be a very exciting match to watch for the fans.

Aryna Sabalenka wants to get close to Iga Swiatek’s record

In tennis, winning a set 6-0 is called a bagel. It’s obviously a very dominating way to win a set and Aryna Sabelanka has been getting a lot of bagels lately.

She already has three bagels in the 2024 Australian Open. On being asked about that, she said that last year Iga Swiatek had a lot of bagels and she wants to replicate that this season.

Well last year Iga won so many sets 6-0. This is one of the goals. Try to get closer to her.
Sabalenka said.

She and Swiatek are the top two seeds of the Australian Open, being the two top-rated WTA players in the world. They might face each other in the finals if things go right.
