Roger Federer and Diego Schwartzman
Diego Schwartzman is an Argentinian tennis player. He has been around for some quiet time participating in his first grand slam in 2014 at the French Open. He is considered to be a fine player on the clay court.
In a recent tweet, Luigi Gatto, an eminent sports journalist and tennis fan tweeted about what Diego Schwartzman said about Roger Federer recently in a recent interview. In this interview, Schwartzman recalled how he could not pronounce the Swiss legend’s first name properly. Also, he remembered the bonhomie and warmth with Roger.
He also remembers when the Swiss Legend and the Argentine were playing at Laver Cup 2022. The Argentine was part of the John McEnroe-led Team World. The Swiss gave the world No.17 his racquet autographed as ‘Rosher’.
Diego Schwartzman said on the incident with Federer: “He laughs a lot about how I pronounce his name, ‘Rosher’, in the Argentine way. During the Laver Cup, he gave me his racket and he signed it writing ‘Rosher’.”
A poor season so far for Diego Schwartzman by his standards
Diego Schwartzman started this year well by defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2022 edition of the ATP Cup. Similarly, he reached the final of the Rio Open but lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
Next, he reached the quarter-final round of the Monte Carlo Masters, this time losing out to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He then won against Félix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-final before losing out to Pablo Carreño Busta in the semi-finals.
In the French Open, he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the fourth round. In Wimbledon, however, he crashed out in the second round itself. In the Cincinnati Open and the US Open, he reached the third round before being defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe respectively.
In the Laver Cup, he again was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas. He later took part in Tel Aviv Watergen Open and reached the Round of 16. Concerning the new quote coming from Diego Schwartzman, Twitter was in splits. Many users liked it sending in lots of love for Schwartzman’s words.
