Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova has announced that she is withdrawing from the 2024 Australian Open due to the same wrist injury that forced her to miss the 2023 WTA Finals. She suffered the injury during his US Open 2023 campaign and has not been able to play after that.

The 27-year-old was starting to recover, but unfortunately, the injury came back during her preparation for the Australian Open.

Unfortunately, the pain in a wrist came back in the middle of my tennis preparation. I therefore have to postpone the start of the season and fully heal my wrist first. It’s frustrating, but I have to keep positive, recover and get ready for the rest of the year

The 2023 season was starting to look like a breakthrough season for Karolina Muchova. She was ranked World No. 235 just 18 months ago and went on to reach the final of the 2023 French Open, where she lost to Iga Swiatek after a thrilling battle.

After her heroics at the Roland Garros, her ranking rose to World No. 10, which was a meteoric rise. Unfortunately, the injury ended a season that could otherwise have turned out to be the turning point of her career.

Muchova was scheduled to make her WTA Finals debut in Cancun, but she had to withdraw from the event before it could even start. She has now taken a similar decision. The Czech international was set to make her comeback in the Australian Open, but now it has been delayed.

Karolina Muchova’s ranking is still at World No. 8 but she better make her comeback soon lest her ranking fall.
