DISGRACE! Fiona Ferro accuses her ex-coach of rape and files assault charges for a 10-year-old incident
Fiona Ferro
Fiona Ferro, one of the upcoming stars from France is slowly making her way but has not been quite up to the mark with her performances since she lost her qualifiers match against the Brit Katie Boulter in straight sets 2-6,3-6 at the 2022 US Open. She had made it through to the main draw at the 2022 French Open but was soon eliminated in the first-round clash against Paula Badosa. She also had a disappointing run at Wimbledon where she again failed to go past the qualifiers round against Emina Bektas of America losing in straight sets.
The French player had won her first singles titles on the WTA Tour defeating the defending champion Alize Cornet in 2019. Her second WTA title win came up against Anett Kontaveit in the Palermo Open in 2020. One of her best performances at the Grand Slam events has been at the Australian Open in 2021 where she made it to the third round but lost to Iga Swiatek and then went on to reach her career-best rankings as she entered the Top 40 of the WTA rankings. But soon, injuries and lack of form made her out of the rankings and she is trying to get back to winning ways.
Fiona Ferro has filed a complaint against her ex-coach for the incident when she was 15 years of age
Fiona Ferro filed a complaint accusing her ex-coach Pierre Bouteyre of rape and sexual assault charges for an incident that took place around 10 years ago. At that time, Ferro was about 15 years of age as the incident occurred at a tennis club. He has been placed under judicial supervision and faces up to 20 years of criminal imprisonment. There is also a restraining order against Bouteyre in place so that he doesn’t try to contact or approach Ferro at all and with the accusation being made, he has been banned from training minors.
Maitre Colombani Isabelle, Fiona Ferro’s lawyer over a phone call shared some details. She said “He clearly had authority over her. And a moral hold. Her trainer? It was everything for her … It was her father from substitution.” Bouteyre happens to be the ex-coach of another noted French player Alize Cornet, who made it to the second round after registering a spectacular win against the defending champion Emma Raducanu at the US Open.
Maitre Virginie Pin, the lawyer of Bouteyre released a statement denying the accusations. He said, “He recognizes the materiality of the facts but disputes the accusation of rape.” Further investigations are still being done for additional details.
