“Dress accordingly”- Disgusting misogyny sneaks its way through Morgan Riddle’s inbox after the influencer shares her horrifying Superbowl experience

American tennis star Taylor Fritz‘s girlfriend and renowned Tiktok influencer, Morgan Riddle shared her horrifying experience at the Super Bowl 2024.

She claimed that women viewers were harassed at the stadium. Riddle said that she was grabbed, groped, cat-called, and harassed as she went to watch the event on the weekend. While she received support from fans, a user blamed her instead.

Riddle shared a screenshot of the reply she received on her Instagram story where she claimed to have been harassed. The user blamed Riddle saying that her dress was inappropriate for a sporting event and that she should have dressed according to the place.

Maybe it's the way you dress? It's a sports game, not a fashion show. Dress accordingly to the place and you have harassement.

Is it safe for women spectators at Super Bowl or a mega sporting event?

As Morgan Riddle has claimed, it was not a healthy environment for female spectators at the Super Bowl 2024. There have been quite a few incidents where female spectators have complained about getting harassed. The NFL itself has been marred with controversy in sexual harassement cases.

The data has also indicated the same. A La Trobe University study, in conjunction with the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research and the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, looked at violence in New South Wales on 18 State of Origin game nights from 2012 to 2017.

The research found a 40.7 percent increase in domestic assaults and a 55.2 percent rise in assaults more broadly on Origin night.

Meanwhile, a study published in the American Economic Journal claimed that the daily reports of rape involving victims between 17 and 24 years old rose by approximately 28 percent on US college football game days. While the culprits and victims did not know each other in quite a few cases, there were also incidents when perpetrators knew the victims.

So, it is not a surprise that women spectators were harassed at the Super Bowl 2024. The reply to Morgan Riddle also exposes the mentality many men still carry. Hopefully, the relevant authorities look into the matter and find a solution.
