Novak Djokovic‘s brother Djordje Djokovic shared a story of how he was left ashamed by one of his brother’s questions at the 2020 Australian Open. Djordje retired from tennis in 2015.
Talking in the show “Survivors” on TV “K1”, Djordje recalled an incident when Novak asked for his advice related to tennis back in 2020. The 28-year-old revealed that the two brothers share a great bond and discuss several things, including tennis. However, at that moment, he felt ashamed, given the fact that Novak had already reached the pinnacle of the sport.
Djordje revealed that he told his elder brother that he could never advise him on anything related to tennis, given that the 36-year-old trains and competes on a very elite level. “We have a relationship where we talk about everything and absolutely advise each other, each in his own sphere. On one occasion in 2020, I was in Australia with Novak, where the day after the match during breakfast, he asked me something related to tennis. I said him, that I am so ashamed to tell him anything about tennis,” said Djorde.
He continued,” I think that what I trained and played was a completely different sport compared to what he plays today, the way he relates to training, preparation, repair, match.” (H/T: kurir.rs)
Djordje Djokovic pays highest respect to his brother Novak Djokovic
Djordje has been left amazed by his brother’s achievements in the sport. He currently holds the record for most Grand Slam titles won, as he claimed his 23rd Major title at the French Open last month.
“As much as I was a great professional, what Novak does, a new word needs to be invented for it. We consult, but still, as far as tennis is concerned, I will never say anything to him again, nor he should ask me anything,” Djordje Djokovic said.
Novak suffered a crushing defeat in the finals of Wimbledon, where he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in five sets. The Serbian was denied his fifth consecutive and a record-leveling eighth Wimbledon title. Moreover, he suffered his first defeat on Centre Court in almost over a decade.
The World No. 2 withdrew from the Canadian Open next month, as he cited exhaustion as a prime reason. The Serbian two hopes to return to action at the Cincinnati Open, as he sets his sight on claiming his fourth US Open title. He did not compete at the US Open last year, owing to vaccination requirements to enter the country.
