Dominic Thiem recently shared an update about rumors of retirement on social media. Fans were relieved when the Grand Slam winner admitted that he had no plans of retiring yet and had been training hard in recent weeks.

A year after winning the 2020 US Open, Thiem has been finding it difficult to find form, with several injuries hampering his time on the court. The Austrian had earlier revealed that he wasn’t sure whether playing was worth it, as he was close to retiring this January.

The 30-year-old skipped the Sunshine doubles this month to play on the Challenger Tour. He didn’t get past the round of 16 in either the Hungary or Szekesfeherva Challengers he competed in. However, in a bid to return to his form, the Austrian revealed on Instagram that he has been training with as much intensity as he used to when he began as a pro.

However, he was forced to withdraw from the Napoli Challenger when he suffered a wrist inflammation. But, he still hopes to compete at the Estoril Open which starts on April 1. Following the update fans on both Instagram and Twitter reacted that they were scared he was announcing his retirement while others hailed him for continuing.

Dominic Thiem has revealed that he is aiming to compete at the Estoril Open despite reduced practice sessions. The tennis player had pulled out of the Napoli Challenger after suffering an inflammatory wrist injury while training hard. This would be a great comeback for the Austrian, who has yet to compete on the ATP Tour this season.

Thiem began his 2024 campaign with his first-round loss at the Australian Open and Szekesfeherva Challenger. The 36-year-old couldn’t make it past the round of 16 of the Zadar Challenger. He will be hoping to regain his rhythm when he comes back to Estoril in April.
