Austrian tennis ace Dominic Thiem is struggling to reclaim what he left when he took a forced break from tennis action over persistent injuries. The 30-year-old has been hanging around the top 100 in the rankings and his aim to get back in the top 50 looks a distant dream.
Thiem does not look like the old player he used to be and the Austrian has made peace with this. He accepts that those were glory days and they won’t come back. Thiem looks disheartened at not being able to win matches like he used to do in his prime days.

As the Austrian is competing at the Estoril Open in Portugal, Thiem was asked about the differences between the player he was some four years back and the player he is right now. To this, Thiem had a mature answer as he admitted that he has to stop comparing himself to his older self.
It’s a different galaxy. It’s a lot of different things. I had a bit more power, more confidence. I simply played better tennis, it was more fluid. There are a lot of differences, but I’ve stopped comparing myself to the player I was before. It’s pointless and I’m trying to do my best with my current situation.Dominic Thiem said to Tennis Majors.
Dominic Thiem is feeling good!
Despite all the struggles, Dominic Thiem is feeling good. Contrary to what he revealed a few days back about his wrist injury threatening to come back, Thiem has claimed that he is no longer injured. After registering his first win on the tour of the new season, the Austrian was elated.

Thiem beat Germany’s Maximilian Marterer in three sets in the first round of the ATP 250 event and he was happy about it. The Austrian declared that he was ready to compete in this tournament.
I’m no longer injured. I’ve been training a little less hard over the last few weeks. I’m ready for Estoril, we’ll see what happens. I’m not playing tomorrow, so I’ll be ready for Wednesday.Dominic Thiem said after his first-round win at the Estoril Open.
Thiem is set to face lucky loser Richard Gasquet in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament. The Austrian will be eyeing nothing less than a win as he prepares for the big clay season lying ahead. Notably, Thiem switched to the Challenger Tour when he struggled to register a win on the main tour.
The 30-year-old started the season at the Brisbane International but only to be knocked out in the first round after losing to Rafael Nadal. He also suffered a first-round exit at the 2024 Australian Open. Nevertheless, he has finally registered his first win which will only boost his confidence.
