Dominic Thiem makes his feelings clear on Alexander Bublik’s abusive verbal barrage following their US Open match

Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem gives his statements on Kazhak World No.25 Alexander Bublik after defeating the latter in straight sets of the US Open first round. During the encounter, Bublik was heard abusing in Russian. As from the translation, Bublik said that he is sick of giving back careers to disabled people. It was speculated that “disabled people” Bublik mentioned in reference to Thiem, who is trying to get back into top gear after the injury setbacks.
In the post-press conference when the reporter asked how Thiem felt about Bublik’s abuse, Thiem replied, “Well, I don’t know if the translation is right.” But when the reporter confirmed that the translation was correct, as he confirmed, the Austrian star said that it was not right of Bublik to say it that way, but he didn’t want to comment more on that.
Thiem said, “It is? Yeah, it’s a tough saying, you know, something you shouldn’t say in general, you know, just out of respect. Yeah, maybe he didn’t mean it that way or whatever. But, yeah, what can I say about it?”
Dominic Thiem will face American youngster Ben Shelton in the second round
The Austrian star Dominic Thiem lost in the first round of Wimbledon after a hard-fought battle against the Greek World No.7 Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets. Though he lost the thriller, Thiem was making evident improvements in the best of five set matches in this year’s Wimbledon. Following Wimbledon, there were numerous tournaments played by the Austrian but his home tournament was the only one he was able to make a mark.
In the Austrian Open, Thiem reached the finals before losing to the unseeded Argentinian Sebastian Baez in straight sets. Thiem has taken his good form lately to the US Open as seen in the first round’s straight sets victory. 20-year-old American Ben Shelton will be his second-round opponent. He came through the first round after a 4-set victory.
It will be interesting to see how Thiem can handle the American youngster who is considered to be one of the promising talents of the next generation. This second-round clash will be a box-office encounter hence.
