An inquiry that had reportedly found irregularities in the blood testing of professional tennis players by drug doping authorities has been severely attacked by notable players like former US finalist Madison Keys. An apparently thorough study that was meant to have identified protocol violations and brought attention to the practice of drug testing tennis players is now being widely ridiculed and contested by professional tennis players.

According to the report published in the Mail on Sunday British newspaper, “Players were invited to secure time slots for blood-doping tests before this year’s Miami Open, a method anti-doping experts say makes a ‘huge difference’ to cheats seeking to escape detection.”

In response to the allegations, Madison Keys has been unusually outspoken, writing on her own Twitter account, “They use “booked” blood passport samples as a baseline to test future samples against. I was woken up at 6:30 am literally 3 days ago for an unscheduled doping test. Don’t spread fake bullshit.”

WTA Professional Andrea Petkovic responded in support of Keys’ remarks. She wrote, “This is dangerously misrepresented. The “doping test” we were able to “schedule” during Miami was a collection of the blood passport which is a blood sample athletes give every year so actual UNSCHEDULED doping tests can be compared to said sample & searched for abnormalities.”
