Elena Rybakina, in an exclusive interview, has recently stated that she is aiming high in the next season. Her main objective is to perform well in the Grand Slam events and achieve the World No.1 ranking in the coming season.
Speaking about her goals and objectives for the 2024 season, the 2022 Wimbledon champion stated,
Of course, the main goal is to become the World No. 1 one day, but the priority always is to do well in the Grand Slams. So I think the goals are quite the same.Rybakina via Gulf News
She also may have taken a slight dig to warn the top players, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, to look out for her as a possible threat in the upcoming season.
The World No.4 had a great start at the Australian Open earlier this year where she reached the finals. However, ever since her incredible run at Melbourne, the Russian-born Kazakhstani player did not do well in the coming tournaments due to injuries. Illness made matters worse for her as she pulled out of the French Open as well.
As she has clearly stated that her main objective is becoming the World No.1, she has also clarified that performing well in the major tournaments will be the main focus. With the addition of the 2024 Paris Olympics next year, the WTA tour will be a packed schedule and it will be difficult for players to manage all the tournaments at once.
Elena Rybakina identifies area of improvement
The World No.4 has hinted at a strong and confident comeback to the top after her injuries and illness as she aims to perform well in the 2024 season. Speaking about her areas of improvement, the Kazakhstani player stated,
Yes, it’s going to be tough. I want to improve physically because this part is always a bit weaker for me but on the court there is so much to improve that we never have the time implement what my coach is telling me.
She won two titles this season apart from reaching the Australian Open finals at the start of this year. She avenged her Australian Open finals loss by defeating Aryna Sabalenka to win the Indian Wells Open. She also won the Italian Open in Rome, clinching her first-ever WTA title on clay. It will be interesting to see how she will fare in the next season with her expectations and aims so high.
