Elena Rybakina is seeded No. 3 in the 2023 Wimbledon and will be facing Shelby Rogers in the first round. Rogers has previously defeated Elena twice in their five past meetings. Shelby has seven top-10 wins. In the second round, she could face the 33-year-old Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, who has 25 wins over the top 10 players, including world No. 1 Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon in 2022.
She revealed how she had absolutely no expectations to win Wimbledon and how she feels about defending the title this year. She said, “I was watching Wimbledon on TV as a child, I always liked the traditions of strawberry and champagne, but I never thought I would even compete there, let alone win it. It was such an amazing feeling to hold the trophy and to see my name on the board with all the legends. I still can’t believe it sometimes.”
