Elena Rybakina scripts history by defeating Ons Jabeur to win the 2022 Wimbledon Championships

Elena Rybakina
The final of the lady’s Wimbledon 2022 was played between the two first-time finalists at a Grand Slam as both the players were pitted for the ultimate glory. Elena Rybakina, the Russian-born Kazakh star, played Ons Jabeur, the trailblazing Tunisian. Ons Jabeur began the match with a flurry of drop-shots as she forced her opponent into mistakes and Rybakina’s serve was badly misfiring. Jabeur took advantage of the weak play from Rybakina who was also making a lot of unforced errors to take the first set 6-3.
It seemed like one-way traffic with Rybakina’s play badly out of shape but the second set was a fresh start for her. Her serve improved a lot and a decrease in unforced errors with increased ruthlessness in shot-making, she broke Jabeur twice who was getting frustrated now. As Rybakina’s performance improved, Jabeur crumbled as she lost the second set 2-6 and the final set was needed for the Wimbledon title. The third was not any better from Jabeur as she was broken in the opening game and looked more and more distraught. She held her nerves after the first break, being unable to break back late in the game, she was broken once more as Rybakina served it out at 6-2 to win the title.

It was a cracker of a final with both the players putting up tremendous performances, but Jabeur was unable to control her emotions early on in the third set and Elena Rybakina rode the momentum to script her name in the history books as the winner of Wimbledon 2022. Rybakina had been utterly dominant throughout the tournament, defeating pre-tournament favorites like Simona Halep on her maiden Grand Slam victory.
It was a heartbreak for Jabeur, but she would be extremely pleased looking back on her achievements at Wimbledon 2022. Rybakina on the other hand brings home the ultimate glory and takes the spotlight, something she has worked so hard to achieve in her career, even moved to Kazakhstan for appropriate support. Her resilience is rewarded as she becomes the first Kazakh to win a grand slam title.
