It was the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International between Elena Rybakina and Anastasia Potapova. The World No.4 took just 32 minutes in the match to advance to the semis of the tournament as Potapova had to retire from the match due to an abdominal injury. The Kazakh player dominated the first set of the match 6-1 before Potapova withdrew from the match.

Anastasia Potapova had played over six hours of tennis in her last two rounds against Aussie wildcard Daria Saville and No.9 Veronika Kudermetova. Owing to these intense matches, Potapova suffered the injury.

In the post-match conference, Rybakina wished the Russian a speedy recovery. She said,

I wish Anastasia a speedy recovery because she had a really tough battle yesterday [against Kudermetova]--I'm just happy I get to play another match, but definitely not the way I wanted to win.

The Kazakh player is going through good form as she has already hit 12 winners in seven games. Moreover, she has lost just five games in the seven sets she has played so far in Queensland. She is set to face either Mirra Andreeva or Linda Noskova in the semis of the Brisbane International.

As the first major 250 event of the season, the Brisbane International has not disappointed the tennis fans as well as the critics. Rybakina and Victoria Azarenka have already been through the final four of the tournaments.
