Tennis couples Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have a great bond both on and off the court, never shying away from the camera. They are very expressive of their emotions for one another and both of them are having a great time at the ongoing Citi Open. They welcomed their daughter last year due to which Elina had to take her time off from tennis but since her return, she has been a revelation beating opponents for fun.

But the main highlight has been their traveling to tours and different countries which can be hard for them after becoming parents. While their child is always a priority for any parents, keeping their professional career up and running is also necessary and Gael and Elina would also want to extend their mark in their tennis careers. Recently Elina spoke about how they left their baby at home and didn’t travel to the US stating the baby’s health as the reason behind this decision.

A journalist retweeted the full statement of Elina regarding their daughter on Twitter where she said talked about how stressful and distressing it can be for their baby while traveling from one place to another. She also continued by saying that they are still communicating frequently with their baby through facetime. But this decision has not been taken lightly by netizens all over the world and the couple received heavy criticism for their way of treating a new born.

How has Elina Svitolina performed at the ongoing Citi Open?

Despite not staying with her daughter, Elina has looked far more confident on the court beating two of the toughest opponents on the Tour so far. She has not dropped a single set till now thereby progressing to the quarter-finals. In the round of 32 matchup, she faced a rematch of her recent Wimbledon encounter against Victoria Azarenka beating the Belarussian again by 6-7, 4-6.

In her round of 16 encounter with Daria Kasatkina, she performed brilliantly beating the fifth seed by 6-2, 6-2 on straight sets. It has been seen in the last few months that Elina loves playing against her Russian and Belarusian opponents and brings out the best in her during those matches. She wants to send a message to the community after the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine and she has since then been fighting for bringing harmony back into her country.
