World No. 1 Iga Swiatek was the clear favorite going into this year’s Wimbledon Championships until she faced Elina Svitolina in the fourth round. Surprisingly, she was knocked out by the Ukrainian, as she seemed absolutely clueless and confused during the entire match.

Former Tennis player Tatiana Golovin commented on Swiatek’s approach during the match and how she fumbled up against Elina. Golovin said that Svitolina played mind games with the World No. 1 and even shattered her confidence completely.

The pressure was pretty much visible as Swiatek kept on losing points on her strong point, which is the forehand. This frustrated her even more, and after winning the second set on a tie-break, she never really came close to wrapping up the match in the third set.

Golovin said, “It was super complicated for Swiatek to find relaxation and confidence, but congratulations to Svitolina who plays inspired tennis and who has never been afraid. She did the most difficult by putting the doubt in the Pole, she was completely lost. We saw her talking to her box and to her mental trainer, she could no longer find a solution, she looked at her little notes but really like a lost child who could no longer find her forehand.”

What now for the super Ukrainian?

Elina Svitolina has simply been a different player this tournament, having already beaten the likes of two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka and World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Leading up to Wimbledon, no one would have expected her to make it this far into the tournament, and now she has a golden opportunity in her hands to lift the famous golden trophy. Svitolina was away from the court for a long time due to injuries and also became mentally ill after Russia’s invasion of her country.

After a few months, she gave birth to her son, which made her fall a long way away from the sport. She needed a wild card entry to participate in the Wimbledon Championships this year, and it’s simply beyond description how far she has come since then. With that being said, the “super mom” isnow just two steps away from the golden moment, trying to give her country some joy in the midst of all the difficulties.
